Preface of Revised Version

Since October 2003 I handed over the manuscript of Unlucky Prometheus, the Fire Bringer- Yang Bin as Far as I Know to my friend for many years Pan Yaoming in Hong Kong, who was the general manager and chief editor of Ming Pao Publication Ltd. By his efforts, this work was to be published. Subsequently, Korean version was published in Seoul. So far, four years has passed. During this period, the North Korean nuclear issue, the Six-party Talks, North Korea-South Korea summit talks, the North Korean to disable nuclear facilities and to improve relations between North Korea and the United States, and so on a series of related events. North Korea issue remains one of the attention focuses in the world, and the Sinuiju Special Administrative Region and its Chief Executive Yang Bin with a close relation to the issue has not been forgotten. They are referred to by the media from time in different occasions now and then.
I once wrote in the postscript of the first edition Unlucky Prometheus, the Fire Bringer- Yang Bin as Far as I Know, “As more information is not suitable for disclosure currently, analysis and various thinking towards Yang Bin issue wasn’t written in the book. In particular, the precious historical photos taken by the author in North Korea wasn’t elected wholly in the book that was really regretful. Hope in the near future, I will have the opportunity to do a revision, to contribute more detailed, complete version to the readers”.
Further progress has been made to North Korea issue that the international community welcomes since it has been four year. Many readers that I know and I don’t know asked me about Sinuiju Special Administrative Region and Yang Bin. In July 2004, I addressed lectures in Seoul, Busan and Jejudo Island etc in the name of visiting scholar at the invitation of related authorities of South Korea. The topic of the lecture I addressed at the hall of South Korea Congress was the Reform and Opening up Policy of Kim Jong II in view of Sinuiju Special Administrative Region. I also took part in some scholar symposiums on North Korea issue held in Beijing for several times and discussed my personal opinions on it. Nowadays since it has been four years, North Korea issue has been achieved new change and progress. I disclosed in the book if necessary some information on Sinuiju Special Administrative Region and Yang Bin, of which some are ideas and opinions that I obtained from the discussions with experts on international issues and scholars on North Korea issue from the mainland of China, South Korea and Japan. In September 2007, I consulted with Pan Yaoming to cease the publication of the book from Ming Pao Publication Ltd. After that, I began to make a lot of revisions and supplements to the book in the hope of providing readers with more detailed information to know Yang Bin better and truer, renamed it more detailed Unlucky Prometheus, the Fire Bringer- Yang Bin as Far as I Know.
The revised edition and the first edition had some differences. Firstly, added a lot of precious historical materials, namely materials on the process of the negotiation of Sinuiju Special Administrative Region and itself.
Secondly, it disclosed the process of the trial of Yang Bin Case, some statements of defense for Yang Bin and lawyers’ opinions on the case that people rarely knew.
Thirdly, some scholars and observers believed that Yang Bin Case was one of the factors triggering the North Korean nuclear crisis and led to the Six-party Talks and a series of incidents, as well as the trend of The relations between China and North Korea.
Fourthly, there were some thoughts and suggestions that I have on Yang Bin Event.
Of course, as a writer of the biography of Yang Bin, I hope to provide readers information closer to the truth. But there is still some information not appropriate to disclose, or some views inconvenient to state straightforward. Hope that readers could understand.
